Emirates CEO: No delay on new aircraft orders

The chairman of Dubai-based airline Emirates says the carrier will not delay any of its orders for new aircraft through at least 2011, and will post a profit even as the global recession drags down global air travel.
Speaking to reporters on Wednesday, Sheik Ahmed bin Saeed al-Maktoum, Emirates' chairman and chief executive, said the will post a profit in the fiscal year that ended in March 31.
Emirates is the biggest hauler of international passengers outside Europe and the United States. It expects to take delivery of 17 new planes in the fiscal year that began last month.
Dubai, one of seven semiautonomous city-states that make up the UAE, owns the carrier and sees it as a vital driver of development.
