EU Parliament approves new gas pump rules

The European Parliament has approved EU-wide rules that will force the installation of new gasoline pumps across Europe to reduce air pollution.
The EU assembly voted 598 to 13 on Tuesday, backing a bill already agreed to by EU governments that aims to tackle toxic vapors that escape fuel tanks when they are being refilled at service stations.
The new EU rule will force station owners to install new nozzles and hoses on their pumps to capture the escaping vapors from vehicles or face fines.
The EU says the gasoline vapors that escape during refueling are known to cause cancer and contribute to the creation of ozone smog.
