Israel's foreign minister has held private talks with Italian Premier Silvio Berlusconi before traveling to Paris, the next stop on his European tour.
Avigdor Lieberman and Berlusconi met at the premier's office on Tuesday, smiling and shaking hands before retiring for discussions.
On Monday, Lieberman said after meeting his Italian counterpart that Israel's new government was committed to peace. But he did not endorse the idea of a Palestinian state, a cornerstone of Western efforts to solve the Mideast conflict.
Lieberman, who heads an ultranationalist party, has raised concerns in the West with his fiery statements. In his first speech as foreign minister, he said concessions to Palestinians only invite war, and criticized last year's U.S. peace efforts.
