Iraq summons Iranian ambassador over bombardment

Iraq's Foreign Ministry has summoned the Iranian ambassador to demand a halt to the shelling of northern border areas.
A statement says a ministry official handed a letter of protest to the ambassador on Monday.
Kurdish officials say the Iranians targeted Iranian Kurdish rebel positions in northern Iraq on Sunday and Monday.
Tehran's military has often fired artillery strikes against the Party for Free Life in Kurdistan, which seeks greater rights for Iran's Kurds. Tehran accuses it of launching attacks from Iraqi bases.
Tuesday's statement warns the shelling threatens villages. It demands an immediate end to what it said were "violations that might ... harm relations between the two countries."
Iran has not commented on the issue.
