Steaua Bucharest defender Pawel Golanski was taken to hospital with a head injury Tuesday after the bus carrying his team to a match was attacked by a group of unidentified people throwing stones, club officials said.
Steaua spokesman Catalin Fainisi said a stone shattered the bus window and hit Golanski on the head. Fainisi was slightly injured.
The Polish defender needed stitches and will stay in a Bucharest hospital overnight, according to hospital doctor Ioan Sarbu.
Police are investigating the incident and are questioning suspects who had quickly left the scene of the incident.
The team was en route to Buzau, 100 kilometers (60 miles) northeast of Bucharest, where it will play Gloria Buzau in a Romanian championship match on Tuesday evening.
