Euro down slightly after upbeat US economic news

The 16-nation euro fell slightly Tuesday against the U.S. dollar in the wake of positive U.S. economic news.
In morning European trading the euro bought $1.3361, down from $1.3396 the night before in New York. The British pound rose to $1.5006 from $1.4994 the night before, while the dollar rose to purchase 98.98 Japanese yen from 98.90 yen in New York.
The euro slip comes after the U.S. Commerce Department on Monday said U.S. construction spending made a surprise 0.3 percent rebound in March, after five straight months of declines. Economists had predicted another decline.
The U.S. National Association of Realtors' index of pending home sales, meanwhile, rose by 3.2 percent in March. That was more than expected, and the second straight monthly gain.
