Union head deplores lack of Tunisia press freedom

The head of Tunisia's national journalists' union is deploring what he says is the appalling state of press freedom in the North African country.
Neji Boughouri says government harassment of journalists and independent media is a prime cause of concern. He also says pro-government news organizations openly campaign for President Zine El Abidine Ben Ali, due to run for a fifth term in October. Boughouri laws have been enacted to protect journalists but "they've remained ignored."
Boughouri could not finish a news conference Monday because of scuffles and fist-fights apparently caused by people who disagreed with his report.
