Kaohsiung, May 4 (CNA) Three crew members of a fishing boat died and two others were injured Monday in a fire that engulfed their boat berthed in Cijin fishing port, near Kaohsiung Port in southern Taiwan.
The fire broke out suddenly at 6: 19 p.m. on the vessel Hwa Fong 707, which was located in the Maritime Work Boat Basin of Cijin fishing port, and the blaze quickly spread through the entire boat.
The local fire brigade dispatched 14 fire trucks and a fireboat, which battled to put out the blaze for more than an hour.
Firemen pulled out three crew members trapped within the boat and rushed them separately to three local hospitals, but they were pronounced dead upon arrival. Doctors at the hospitals said they had all suffered serious burns and had no heartbeat or other vital signs when they arrived.
The three crewmen's names were withheld, pending notification of their next of kin.
The local fire brigade said its experts were still trying to establish the cause of the fire.
