200,000 Swedes urge Eritrea to release reporter

More than 200,000 people have signed a Swedish petition urging Eritrea to release a Swedish-Eritrean journalist imprisoned there since 2001.
Editors of Sweden's four leading newspapers presented the petition calling for Dawit Isaak's release to the Eritrean Embassy in Stockholm on Monday.
Isaak went to Sweden in 1987 as a war refugee, but returned to Eritrea in the 1990s to become a reporter at an independent newspaper. He is one of several journalists who were arrested and imprisoned without a trial on Sept. 18, 2001, after demanding press freedom.
Swedish newspapers joined forces in March for a campaign calling attention to the case and urging the Swedish government to work more actively for Isaak's release.
