Serbia probes ex-Kosovo rebel for war crimes

Serbia has launched a war crimes investigation of a former senior Kosovo rebel although he has been acquitted by a U.N. court.
The war crimes prosecutor's office says Fatmir Limaj and several others are suspected of war crimes against Serbs during the 1998-99 war.
Spokesman Bruno Vekaric says the investigation was launched after consultation with the U.N. tribunal in The Hague, Netherlands.
The same court acquitted Limaj in 2005 saying there was not enough evidence to prove he tortured and killed Serbs in a prison camp.
Vekaric says Serbia's investigation will focus on events that were not part of the Hague indictment.
About 10,000 people were killed during the war over Kosovo. Kosovo declared independence last year.
