Chechnya's local Interior Ministry says three suspected rebels opened fire on a police convoy and killed an officer in the violence-plagued Russian province.
The ministry office says in a statement released Monday that another three officers were seriously wounded in the ambush on Sunday.
The police had been driving two vehicles into a Chechen village when the three attackers opened fire with Kalashnikov rifles and then escaped.
Insurgents still stage frequent attacks in Chechnya despite increased stability in the southern region under pro-Kremlin President Ramzan Kadyrov. Russia recently ended a federal counterterrorism operation after two bloody wars in the republic.
