The Spanish health minister has raised the number of confirmed swine flu cases in this country from four to 10, including the first involving someone who caught the disease without traveling to Mexico.
Health Minister Trinidad Jimenez says a total of 53 people in Spain are under observation.
She told a parliamentary panel Wednesday that one person in the northeastern Catalonia region had developed the disease through contact with another person.
Until now the minister had said all of Spain's confirmed cases involved people who had recently been in Mexico, where the global outbreak began.
