Majority  support tourism development: government

Taipei, April 27 (CNA) A great majority of the public support plans by the government to develop Taiwan's tourism and make the country one of the key destinations for tourism in Asia, a government agency said Monday.
In a recent survey conducted by the Directorate General of Budget, Accounting and Statistics (DGBAS) , 78 percent of the respondents said they support the administration's plans to make tourism development one of the top goals with regard to Taiwan's overall development, the DGBAS said.
Seventy-two percent of the respondents said they support the government's plans to investment NT$30 billion (US$890 million) over the next four years to develop Taiwan into a key Asian tourism destination.
The poll, conducted April 21-22, found that 81 percent of the respondents agreed that an online national tourism services network should be set up by the government and that the administration should help local governments to plan tourism routes and provide tourism information, DGBAS officials said.
Meanwhile, 78 percent of the respondents said tourist attractions around the country should be redesignated and overhauled, they noted.
The poll of 969 adults selected randomly nationwide had a margin of error of 3.15 percentage points, DGBAS said.
