Share prices higher on Taipei bourse

Taipei, April 7 (CNA) Taiwan's share prices closed higher for the sixth consecutive day Tuesday, after opening weaker following overnight losses on Wall Street.
The Taiex advanced 20.63 points, or 0.37 percent, to close at 5,576.85. A total of 5.95 billion shares changed hands on turnover of NT$117.40 billion (US$ 3.50 billion).
The local bourse opened lower at 5,497.88 and fluctuated between 5,576.85 and 5,484.89.
Five of the eight major stock categories gained ground, with paper and pulp stocks surging the most at 4.8 percent. Construction shares advanced 2.6 percent, plastics and chemicals dropped 1.3 percent, foodstuff issues rose 1.2 percent, and machinery and electronics stocks gained 0.5 percent.
The three other major stock categories lost ground, with textile stocks falling the most at 2.8 percent. Cement issues dropped 1.6 percent, while banking and financial sector slipped 0.5 percent, snapping more than one week of gains amid pessimism over the Legislative Yuan's plan to pass a law amendment to lower the ceiling interest rate for revolving credit recorded by holders of credit and cash cards to 12.5 percent per annum from the existing 20 percent.
Gainers outnumbered losers 1,100 to 925, with 135 stocks remaining unchanged.
Foreign investors were net seller of shares worth NT$7.16 billion.
