Ex-US State worker sentenced for passport peeks

A former U.S. State Department employee has been sentenced to a year's probation for looking a confidential passport files of celebrities and his friends.
Dwayne Cross of suburban Maryland also was ordered Monday to perform 100 hours of community service for the unauthorized access of more than 150 passport applications.
Cross admitted he looked at applications for celebrities, politicians, athletes, members of the media, friends and family members out of idle curiosity. The applications include passport photos and other personal information, and federal privacy law says they can be accessed only for official government business.
Cross is among three former State Department employees to plead guilty in the investigation.
