US man admits stealing $6M from employer

A New York man has pleaded guilty to charges that he stole millions of dollars from Hitachi America, his employer, and then bought a luxury car and Florida real estate.
Dennis Dowd pleaded guilty to health care fraud and money laundering in federal court in Manhattan Wednesday.
Prosecutors say the 52-year-old stole $6.1 million from Hitachi America, a subsidiaty of the Japanese firm, where he was a senior human resources manager. They say he will forfeit the money and property in Point Lookout, New York, and Vero Beach, Florida.
He admitted diverting funds from employee benefits programs to his multiple credit card accounts.
He worked for nearly 30 years at the company's Tarrytown offices before he was fired last year. Sentencing was set for June 11.
