Two-time champion Peter Bromby of Bermuda won the fourth race in the Bacardi Cup Star class regatta in Biscayne Bay on Wednesday.
Bromby and crew Magnus Liljedahl kept the overall lead with two races to go. Their commanding margin was reduced to one boat length at the finish.
John VanderMolen and Geoff Ewenson, a veteran Finn sailor, were the runner-up and remained second overall.
Rounding out the top five were Switzerland's Flavio Marazzi and Petter Pedersen; Ireland's Peter O'Leary and Tim Goodbody; and America's Cup veteran and former Star world champion Paul Cayard with Austin Sperry of the United States.
"The breeze filled in from behind on the final leg, and (VanderMolen) did a nice job of riding it down on us, but we weren't nervous at all," Bromby said. "With just one boat to cover, we knew we could pull it out."
