Poland's church closes screening for collaboration

Poland's Roman Catholic Church says it has ended its screening of bishops for communist-era collaboration with no wrongdoing found.
The effort in combing communist files for traces of collaboration ended last year and the findings were sent to the Vatican, but were not made public.
The Polish Episcopate said in a communique Wednesday that the Vatican replied it found "no grounds" to accuse any of Poland's bishops of intentional and conscious collaboration.
The bishops volunteered to be screened after a freshly appointed archbishop of Warsaw resigned just minutes before his ceremonious inauguration in 2007 among collaboration allegations. The case was a bitter shock for the predominantly Catholic nation.
