Norwegian police detain suspect in painting theft

Norwegian police say they have detained one suspect on suspicion of having a role in the theft of a Renaissance painting by Lucas Cranach the Elder from a Lutheran church.
The painting "Suffer the Little Children to Come Unto Me" could be worth 15-20 million kroner ($2.1-$2.8 million) and was snatched in a pre-dawn break-in Sunday. It was probably painted around 1540 and had hung in the church in the southern town of Larvik for about 330 years.
A police statement says one person was detained Wednesday on suspicion of being an accomplice in the theft. They refused to immediately release details or say whether the painting was recovered.
Cranach lived from 1472 until 1553, and is considered an important German Renaissance painter.
