Official: Seattle police chief to be drug czar

The Obama administration plans Wednesday to nominate Seattle police chief Gil Kerlikowske as the nation's drug czar.
Vice President Joe Biden is expected to announce that Kerlikowske has been chosen to be chief of the Office of National Drug Control Policy, a job that requires Senate confirmation, said an administration official speaking on condition of anonymity because the formal announcement was still pending.
Kerlikowske had been widely expected to be named to the position but an announcement was held up after disclosure that his stepson, Jeffrey, had an arrest record on drug charges.
Kerlikowske served a stint during the administration of President Bill Clinton as deputy director in the Justice Department's COPS program, which promotes community policing.
