Share prices higher on Taipei bourse

Taipei, March 11 (CNA) Taiwan's share prices edged higher Wednesday, with the weighted index, the market's key barometer, advancing 88.94 points, or 1.9 percent, to close at 4,759.96.
Finishing higher for the second consecutive day, the local bourse opened at 4,789.8 and fluctuated between 4,798.06 and 4,747.89. A total of 5.71 billion shares changed hands on market turnover of NT$111.91 billion (US$3.25 billion).
All eight major stock categories gained ground, with plastics and chemicals shares moving up the most at 5.1 percent. Banking and financial shares advanced 4.2 percent, cement stocks rose 2.7 percent, textile stocks advanced 2.3 percent, paper and pulp issues and construction issues both were up 2 percent, foodstuff issues increased 1 percent, and machinery and electronics shares rose 0.8 percent.
Gainers outnumbered losers 1,128 to 662, with 154 stocks remaining unchanged.
Foreign investors were net buyers of shares worth NT$3.09 billion.
