A former British policeman has been sentenced to community service for abusing his position to spy on his adulterous wife.
Andrew Liptrot had admitted to using his police credentials to seize surveillance footage from two pubs at which he suspected his wife was meeting her lover _ who was also his best friend.
The 47-year-old also admitted to using police computers to search for incriminating information on his friend.
Liptrot was acquitted on a charge of assaulting his wife. He told a jury at Preston Crown Court, in northwest England, that the bruises she bore on her wrists were the result of using handcuffs in bed.
He was sentenced Tuesday to serve 150 hours of community service for misconduct.
