U.S. Sen. Lisa Murkowski has suffered a serious knee injury while skiing and an aide says she is using a wheelchair.
The ski patrol at the Alyeska Ski Resort south of Anchorage says the Alaska Republican tumbled as much as 300 feet.
A spokesman said Tuesday that Murkowski believes she tore two ligaments in her left knee during the fall Sunday.
Spokesman Mike Brumas says Murkowski also is "bruised and a little battered" and will have to use a wheelchair for several days.
He says the senator is an expert skier but she "lost her traction" while skiing at the resort's second hardest trail at Alaska's Mount Alyeska.
Brumas said Murkowski had flown back to Washington and was getting an MRI exam Tuesday.
