Man in NYC stabbing spree sentenced to 34 years

A former mental patient who went on a stabbing spree in subways and Manhattan's theater district in June 2006 has been sentenced to 34 years in prison.
Kenny Alexis was sentenced Tuesday in Manhattan. The 23-year-old Boston man was found guilty last month of attempted murder of a Houston man on a subway train and a Brooklyn man on a subway platform.
He was acquitted of attempted murder but convicted of assault for knifing two Montreal women in the theater district.
Prosecutor Michael Sachs had sought a 75-year sentence, but defense lawyer Steven Fusfeld had asked the judge to consider his client's psychiatric history.
The judge says it's a miracle no one died and that random attacks "are the scariest types of crimes that we see."
