France rugby union great Serge Blanco, presently chairman of Biarritz Olympique, has undergone minor heart surgery but should be out of hospital by the end of the week, the club said on Tuesday.
"The operation, which occurred on Monday, went well and Serge Blanco should be able to return home before the end of the week," Biarritz said in a statement.
Blanco, 50, had an angioplasty _ a procedure to open narrowed or clogged blood vessels of the heart _ the club said.
The former France fullback and captain scored 38 tries in 93 appearances for the national side between 1980 and 1991. After 10 years at the head of the French rugby league, Blanco was elected Biarritz chairman in December.
