Woo to hard boil video game

John Woo's production company is planning to make an English-language movie based on the video game inspired by his 1992 Cantonese-language gangster thriller "Hard-Boiled," his business partner said yesterday.
Woo's Los Angeles-based Lion Rock Productions recently hired writers to develop the script for the film adaptation of the 2007 video game "Stranglehold," producer Terence Chang said. But Woo won't direct the movie. Lion Rock Productions is in talks with Hong Kong director Stephen Fung, Chang said.
"Hard-Boiled," starring Chow Yun-fat and Tony Leung Chiu-wai, is about a Hong Kong police officer seeking to avenge the death of his partner, who was killed by a gun-smuggling ring. "Stranglehold" revolves around the main character in "Hard-Boiled" played by Chow, Inspector Tequila.
Chang said Woo would mostly likely next direct the epic romance "1949," which is set against the Chinese civil war that split mainland China and Taiwan.
