Canadian pleads guilty to bringing Ecstasy into US

A Canadian man has pleaded guilty to trying to smuggle more than 275,000 pills of Ecstasy into the United States.
Joseph Bennett of Scarborough, Ontario, pleaded guilty Monday in federal court in Detroit to charges of importation of Ecstasy and possession with intent to distribute.
Sentencing is set for June 15.
Authorities say Bennett was arrested last year at the Blue Water Bridge in Port Huron. His truck was selected for a random search, and a canine team uncovered a stash of pills behind the dashboard.
Customs and Border Protection estimates the street value of the haul at $6.5 million or more.
A message seeking comment was left Tuesday for defense attorney Byron Pitts.
