SAfrica to ease immigration rules for Zimbabweans

South Africa is planning to ease its immigration rules for Zimbabweans fleeing the country's economic and humanitarian crises.
Home Affairs spokeswoman Siobhan McCarthy said Tuesday that South Africa is planning to issue Zimbabweans with special status that would allow them to stay and work.
The country is battling to cope with an influx of asylum seekers from Zimbabwe. At least 3 million Zimbabweans are living in South Africa.
McCarthy also says a new center will be opened in Pretoria to alleviate the pressure caused by increasing numbers of Zimbabwean asylum seekers.
Thousands are camped without proper shelter or sanitation outside government refugee offices across the country.
