Madagascar's defense minister resigns

Madagascar's defense minister says he is resigning amid growing concern that the military will take sides in the island's political dispute.
Mamy Ranaivoniarivo submitted his letter of resignation to the president Tuesday. He did not immediately give a reason.
His predecessor had resigned less than a month ago in protest after security forces fired on anti-government demonstrators and killed at least 25 people.
Opposition leader Andry Rajoelina's has accused President Marc Ravalomanana of misspending funds, undermining democracy and being responsible for the deaths of protesters. The challenge has sparked turmoil on this Indian Ocean island.
A small group of soldiers staged a mutiny Sunday saying they would no longer obey government orders.
