WBC a big hit in Japan

The World Baseball Classic is a big hit in Japan.
Japan's 14-2 defeat of Asian rival South Korea on Saturday earned a television viewer rating of 37.8 percent, local media reported Monday.
The 37.8 rating for the South Korea game was up 10 percent from Japan's opening game against China on Thursday and is higher than any viewer rating for Japan's national football team over the past two years.
Japan, the defending WBC champions, have been playing to sold-out crowds at Tokyo Dome. Even Japan's exhibition games played before the tournament saw near-capacity crowds in Osaka and other cities.
Japan will play Olympic champion South Korea again on Monday to determine first place in Pool A of the 16-nation tournament. Both Japan and Korea have already advanced to the second round which begins on March 15 in San Diego.
Japan defeated Cuba 10-6 in the final of the inaugural WBC in 2006.
