Share prices surge on Taipei bourse

Taipei, March 5 (CNA) Taiwan's share prices surged Thursday, with the weighted index, the market's key barometer, advancing 95.78 points, or 2.10 percent, to close at 4,637.20.
Rising for the third consecutive session, the local bourse opened at 4,628.54 and fluctuated between 4,677.89 and 4,598.80. A total of 5.02 billion shares changed hands on market turnover of NT$106.78 billion (US$3.05 billion).
All eight major stock categories gained ground, with construction stocks moving up the most at 4.4 percent. Cement shares advanced 4.3 percent, banking and financial shares gained 3.2 percent, plastics and chemicals stocks as well as textiles stocks increased 2.2 percent, foodstuff issues were up 2.1 percent, and machinery and electronics shares as well as paper and pulp issues gained 1.9 percent.
Gainers outnumbered losers 1,363 to 405, with 131 stocks remaining unchanged.
Foreign investors were net buyer of shares worth NT$5.03 billion.
