Mexico's oldest party celebrates 80th anniversary

Mexico's Institutional Revolutionary Party is celebrating its 80th anniversary with hopes of recapturing the presidency it lost in 2000 after ruling for 71 years.
Most polls ahead of July congressional elections show voters view the PRI favorably.
President Vicente Fox of the conservative National Action Party ended the PRI's grip on power with his 2000 election. Rampant drug violence and an economic downturn have stoked discontent with the government of Fox's ally and successor, President Felipe Calderon.
The PRI, founded 80 years ago Wednesday, remains the dominant political force in a more democratic Mexico, controlling 18 governorships out of 31. It is the second political force in the Senate and the third in the lower house.
