Cortina downhill training canceled

Cortina downhill training canceled

The opening training session for a World Cup downhill was canceled Tuesday due to heavy snowfall at the premier stop on the women's ski circuit.
More snow was forecast for the Olympia delle Tofane course Wednesday, forcing organizers to push back the second training session from 10 a.m. to noon. Better weather was expected later in the week.
World Cup rules require at least one training session to be held before a downhill race.
The racing in Cortina opens with a super-G Thursday, two downhills Friday and Saturday, with a giant slalom Sunday rounding out the four-race weekend. Friday's downhill was originally scheduled for Lake Louise, but was postponed due to bad weather in the Canadian resort earlier this season.
