Mexico tries to keep drug money from campaigns

Mexican electoral officials have put in place tougher measures to try to keep drug money out of politics.
The Federal Electoral Institute says it will tighten accounting oversight of campaign donations and step up audits of political candidates and fundraisers. Audits will be done during the campaigns instead of waiting until the elections are over.
The institute said Thursday that anonymous campaign gifts will no longer be allowed. The maximum cash donation will be 10,000 pesos ($708), and anything larger must be given by check so the money can be traced.
Mexico holds Congressional elections in July.
