Chicago Mayor Richard Daley wants a dream team of former presidents, secretaries of state and ambassadors to help the city become the host of the 2016 Olympics.
Daley calls President-elect Barack Obama the quarterback of the team.
The mayor told the Chicago Sun-Times such support is important because private citizens can approach International Olympic Committee members at any time. Daley and the city's Olympic committee are restricted in their access to the panel.
Former U.S. Olympic Committee chairman Peter Ueberroth has said Chicago's efforts were lagging and stronger politicking was needed.

COLORADO SPRINGS, Colorado (AP) _ Anne Donovan and Mike Krzyzewski were co-winners of the 2008 USA Basketball national coach of the year award on Thursday.
They guided their teams to gold medals at the Beijing Olympics, each posting undefeated records.
Donovan, who earned 1984 and 1988 Olympic gold medals as a player, became the first person in USA Basketball history to win Olympic gold as an athlete and head coach.
"I take great pride in the award, but it's certainly not just for me," Donovan said. "It's a culmination of a lot of hard work by our players, the assistant coaches and the USA Basketball staff."
Krzyzewski is the first three-time winner, having won in 2006-07. Donovan also won in 2007.
"He challenged us to perfection, allowed us to have freedom and just play the game of basketball and have fun," LeBron James said. "All of this helped bring home the gold medal."

CINCINNATI (AP) _ Like most stocks, the market for Cincinnati Bengals seat license contracts has plunged.
The agreements, which can be resold, give holders the right to buy season tickets at Paul Brown Stadium. But in less than two years, the average value dropped from $2,783 to $536, according to SeasonTicketRight.com, a popular online trading exchange.
President Kyle Burks sees it as a good opportunity for Bengals fans to get the license contracts for bargain prices.
Some fans want out after the Bengals' latest losing season. Rich Ehemann told The Cincinnati Enquirer he's fed up with the team and was trying to sell his two club seat licenses at a loss to make it happen.
The Pittsburgh Steelers, who are playing in the AFC Championship game on Sunday, represent the other end of the market. The average Steelers seat license price in December was nearly $9,000.
