Israeli foreign minister to Washington on truce

Israeli foreign minister Tzipi Livni is traveling to Washington to discuss a Gaza cease-fire.
A statement from the Israeli prime ministers office said Livni would be leaving for the United States Thursday night to discuss and Egyptian mediated cease-fire to end the fighting in Gaza.
The statement said Livni will be meeting with U.S. Secretary of State Condoleezza Rice and other U.S. officials.
The United States and Egypt have been working to forge a truce agreement that would end 20 days of bitter fighting in the Gaza Strip between Israel and Hamas militants.
Israel says it launched the military campaign to stop daily Hamas rocket fire from Gaza at southern Israeli communities.
More than 1000 Palestinians and 13 Israelis have been killed.
