Austria: No proof hit man killed Chechen

The Vienna public prosecutor's office says it has no proof that a Chechen refugee who was slain on a Vienna street was the victim of a hit man.
Spokesman Gerhard Jarosch says investigators are exploring the possibility that the shooting of 27-year-old Umar Israilov on Tuesday was planned and politically motivated, but that authorities have no evidence of that.
Media reports have suggested that Israilov was considered a traitor by Chechnya's Kremlin-backed president, Ramzan Kadyrov.
Austrian authorities also said Thursday that the victim had felt threatened in recent weeks and that a 40-year-old man of Chechen origin detained after the shooting has denied any involvement.
