Australians imprisoned for illegal Papua flight

An Indonesian court sentenced five Australians to up to three years in prison Thursday for flying illegally into the restricted Papua region.
They were convicted at the Merauke District court in Papua, the nation's easternmost province where they were arrested in September because they didn't have flight, security or immigration approval before landing.
Pilot William Scott-Bloxam was sentenced to three years for violating flight security and immigration law and fined 50 million rupiah ($4,460).
Three passengers and the stewardess were each sentenced to two years in prison and fined 25 million rupiah ($2,230).
Indonesia maintains tight restrictions on travel to Papua, where a small guerrilla force has been waging a low-level separatist insurgency since the 1960s.
