Stock futures point lower after economic reports

A pair of weak readings on the economy is keeping U.S. stock futures lower.
The Labor Department said Thursday that new claims for jobless benefits increased more than expected last week, after two weeks of declines. The government also says wholesale prices dropped for a fifth straight month as gasoline prices fell by a record amount.
Investors had expected the readings to be gloomy. Stock futures pared their decline slightly after the reports. But Wall Street remains on edge following a discouraging outlook from JPMorgan Chase & Co. The bank managed to avoid a loss in the fourth quarter, but said higher loan losses are likely if the economy deteriorates further.
The Dow Jones industrial average futures are down 35 points to 8,124.
