IOC inspects Winter Youth Games venues

International Olympic Committee president Jacques Rogge on Thursday inspected the venues that will be used for the first Winter Youth Games in January 2012.
"We are glad to be back in Innsbruck where the extraordinary 1964 and 1976 Olympic Winter Games were staged," Rogge said after visiting several venues as well as the site where an Olympic village is to be built.
Rogge also signed a host contract with the city council of Innsbruck and the Austrian National Olympic Committee. He then underlined the relatively short preparation period of three years.
"But the city knows well how to organize huge sporting events," Rogge said. "Innsbruck can count on the IOC and particularly on the Coordination Commission under the leadership of IOC member Gian-Franco Kasper."
About 1,000 athletes between 14 and 18 years old are expected to take part in the first edition of the Winter Youth Olympics, which will consist of all traditional Winter Olympic sports: bobsled, skeleton, biathlon, curling, ice hockey, luge, speedskating, figure skating and skiing.
