Vanderbeek fastest in downhill training

Kelly Vanderbeek of Canada posted the fastest time Thursday in a women's World Cup downhill training.
Vanderbeek raced down the Kaelberloch course in 1 minute, 51.21 seconds to edge Marie Marchand-Arvier of France by 0.06 seconds.
Lucia Recchia of Italy came third, 0.29 behind Vanderbeek, while giant slalom specialist Kathrin Zettel of Austria was fourth, trailing Vanderbeek by 0.43.
Defending downhill and overall champion Lindsey Vonn came 21st with a 1.21-second deficit, while American teammate Julia Mancuso tied for 15th, 0.92 behind.
Fog caused slightly poor visibility for early starters, but conditions improved during the run which benefited lower start numbers.
Another downhill training is scheduled for Friday. Wednesday's run was canceled due to fog and snowfall.
The World Cup event in Zauchensee consists of a super-combined race on Saturday and a downhill on Sunday.
