Dutch government okays new offshore wind turbines

The Netherlands' Transportation Ministry has granted a construction permit for a new wind turbine farm in the North Sea which would be the largest so far in Dutch waters.
The development by Ireland's Airtricity Ltd. is slated to generate 260 megawatts _ enough to power 320,000 households, the ministry says _ and will be located 25 miles (40 kilometers) off Rotterdam.
The two other wind farms in Dutch waters are a 100MW park near the coast at Egmond aan Zee and a 120MW park 14 miles (23 kilometers) off the coast from Ijmuiden.
The ministry said in a statement Thursday the park is scheduled for completion in 2013.
The Dutch government has a target of generating 6,000MW of electricity from offshore windmills by 2020.
