Claim: crashed Russian copter hunted rare sheep

A Russian environmental group claims a top-ranking Russian government official who died in a helicopter crash on the Mongolian border was part of an illegal hunt of endangered wild sheep.
Igor Chestin of the World Wildlife Fund says victims of a Mi-171 helicopter crash in the Altai region were hunting protected Argali sheep. Fewer than 200 Argali are left in Russia.
Altai government spokeswoman Elena Kobzeva denies the allegation. She says the hunters were after mountain goats and had permits.
Eight died in the crash, including President Dmitry Medvedev's representative in Russia's lower house of parliament.
Chestin said Thursday his group has photos of the Argali allegedly shot by those aboard the helicopter and other evidence the hunt was illegal.
