Prices drop on Taipei futures market

Taipei, Jan. 15 (CNA) Prices on Taipei's stock futures market plummeted Thursday, with the Taiwan Stock Exchange Capitalization Weighted Index for January shedding 270 points to close at 4,239, with 74,394 contract transactions.
TAIEX Index futures for February fell 289 points to close at 4,188, with 8,339 contracts traded, while March futures were down 289 points to end at 4,166, with 104 contracts traded.
June futures dropped 281 points to close at 4,137, with 34 contract transactions, while September futures declined 268 points to end at 3,961, with 78 contract transactions.
Taiwan International Mercantile Exchange reference levels for TAIEX Index futures trading were set Thursday at 4,509 for January, 4,477 for February, 4,455 for March, 4,418 for June, and 4,229 for September.
The Taiwan stock exchange's benchmark TAIEX index moved down 200.7 points to finish at 4,320.77, on turnover of NT$54.2 billion (US$1.63 billion).
Electronics (TE) and financial (TF) futures, which are sub-index futures based on Taiwan Stock Exchange-listed electronics shares and financial stocks, were both lower.
January TE futures fell 9.35 points to close at 164.7, with 4,304 contracts traded, while February TE futures dropped 9.75 points to finish at 163.6, with 342 contracts traded.
No transactions were recorded for March, June, and September.
January TF futures were down 38.8 points to close at 515.8, with 2,323 contracts changing hands, while February TF futures decreased 38.6 points to finish at 514.4, with 272 contracts traded.
June TF futures dropped 37.6 points to finish at 504.4, with two contracts changing hands. No transactions were recorded for the other months.
