Buffaloes look to Hideo Nomo as pitching coach

The Orix Buffaloes of Japan's Pacific League have invited former major league pitcher Hideo Nomo to coach pitchers at the team's spring training camp.
Nomo, who won 201 games in Japan and the majors, offered advice to Orix pitchers at a fall camp and the team was so impressed with his influence on young pitchers they asked him back to spring training, the Nikkansports reported Thursday on its Web site.
The 40-year-old Nomo announced his retirement in July, bringing an end to a 13-year major league career with several teams that began in 1995, when he won the National League rookie of the year award. With his trademark "tornado" delivery, Nomo became famous for his unpredictable forkball.
Before leaving Japan, Nomo spent five seasons with the Kintetsu Buffaloes, who later merged with the Orix BlueWave to become the Orix Buffaloes.
