Bauxite firm in Jamaica to cut 250 jobs

A bauxite and alumina producer in Jamaica is cutting 250 jobs at its Jamaican plants due to plunging demand for the chief ore in aluminum.
Alberto Fabrini is the managing director of Alumina Partners of Jamaica, or Alpart. He said Wednesday that part-time workers will soon be dismissed.
Vincent Morrison of the National Workers Union says more employees will likely be dismissed in coming months in Jamaica, one of the world's largest producers of bauxite.
Last month, the Russian-owned bauxite and alumina producer, West Indies Alumina Company, cut 150 jobs at its Jamaican plants due to plunging demand. That company is owned by United Company RUSAL, the world's largest producer of aluminum.
