Correction: Amazon pollution case

In a Dec. 21 story about oil pollution litigation, The Associated Press erroneously reported that Chevron Corp. signed a 1998 remediation agreement with Ecuador and initially asked that the case be heard in Ecuador. Texaco Inc. signed the agreement and requested the trial venue. It was bought by Chevron in 2001.
The court's technical expert was not appointed by the current judge, Juan Evangelista Nunez. He was appointed by a previous judge in the case.
The story also did not clearly describe the plaintiffs in the suit against Chevron. The suit names 48 plaintiffs, but the plaintiffs say they seek to represent all residents of the area affected by alleged ecological damage.
