Feyenoord fires coach Gertjan Verbeek

Feyenoord fired coach Gertjan Verbeek on Wednesday after only six months on the job because of a poor start to the season.
"To my regret, our roads have separated," Feyenoord general director Eric Gudde said, adding that Verbeek had "no chemistry" with some his players.
Feyenoord won only five of 17 league matches under Verbeek, a former SC Heerenveen defender who also coached Heracles Almelo and Heerenveen. The club has not yet named a replacement.
Technical director Peter Bosz and assistant coach Wim Jansen have also left the club in "solidarity with Verbeek," Gudde said.
Feyenoord trails Dutch league leader AZ Alkmaar by 22 points. The two-time UEFA Cup winners next visit Heerenveen on Friday for the year's first league game.
Verbeek's supporters have blamed the club's poor form on the absence of several players due to injury. Jon Dahl Tomasson, Kevin Hofland, Ron Vlaar, Tim Vincken, Danny Buijs, Denny Landzaat and Jonathan de Guzman have all been out of action with injuries while Tim de Cler only returned to training Wednesday.
