A man who collapsed while performing in Philadelphia's famed Mummers Parade on New Year's Day has died.
Murray Comic Club brigade captain Jerry Murray suffered an apparent heart attack in front of the parade judges' reviewing stand at City Hall.
He had been hospitalized since, and family and friends say the 57-year-old attorney died Monday.
Murray's collapse was captured live on local TV. Some observers initially thought his fall was part of the act.
The Mardi Gras-like parade almost didn't happen after the cash-strapped city withdrew more than $400,000 in support. It was saved through last-minute private fundraising. The parade had been canceled only twice since it became an official city event in 1901.
