Benitez back in hospital for new operation

Liverpool manager Rafa Benitez returned to the hospital Wednesday for a third operation on kidney stones.
The Premier League leaders play Everton on Monday in the Merseyside derby, and the team is hopeful that the Spaniard will be back in time to oversee preparations for the match.
"It's a difficult time for him because, you know Rafa Benitez, all he wants to do is be out there on the training pitch with his players," assistant manager Sammy Lee said. "That's his forte, but he's still buoyant. He's going for the third operation but we're hoping it won't keep him out for too long _ hopefully just a couple of days."
Benitez returned to the hospital in the midst of negotiations over a new contract. The length and salary have already been agreed upon with owners Tom Hicks and George Gillett Jr., but the two sides are now trying to establish what power Benitez will have to sign new players.
In Benitez's absence, Lee will be leading the training sessions, as he did last month when the manager had his first operation.
"All credit to Rafa for what he's put in place," Lee said. "His attention to detail and organization means that, if any one of us is missing, there won't be a blip."
Liverpool has a four-point lead over second-place Chelsea, but Manchester United can move to the top of the standings before Monday's game if the defending champions win their next two matches.
